Cop Gone Wild In Trouble Over Motorist's Video

A car-mounted video camera — more commonly used by police than against them — captured a loud and threatening confrontation in this tiny St. Louis County community that left an officer on suspension and the whole world able to listen in.

The picture doesn't show much, but the audio part of the recording, posted on Google Video and YouTube on the Internet, brought more than 300 protest calls to St. George Police Chief Scott Uhrig.

"I was very displeased when I saw the actions on the video," Uhrig said. "My officers are not trained and taught to act like that."

He put Sgt. James Kuehnlein on unpaid suspension pending further investigation.

Uhrig said the officer's actions were not justified, and he insisted the episode is not representative of his department.

A voice identified as Kuehnlein's can be heard taunting the driver and threatening to jail him on fabricated charges.

The tape, made late last week, was from a camera running in the vehicle Kuehnlein approached, police said.

Brett Darrow, 20, of St. Louis, said he was the driver who recorded the exchange. He posted it online Saturday.

"I wanted everybody to see that this kind of stuff does happen," Darrow said. "I thought if I just go to the chief or whatever, it would just get swept under the rug."

OH Jesus! More news about St. George Police Department.

A caller on KMOX has seen St. George Police officers while on duty go in and buy beer while in uniform! She said many in St. George have seen it and know it's going on. (This may explain his slurred speech in Maxima_Lovers Video!)

The police chief of St. George, used to work for the Arnold Police Department and made sexual advances to a 17 year old girl during a traffic stop. He had asked her to follow him , which she did and they ended up behind a tractor trailer. Where the 17 year old girl says he then asked her for sexual favors. This can be found online and verified as well at the following web address http://www.oa.mo.gov/ah...PO.KAW.doc

Another caller says that he lives in Bella Villa, and knows of St. George and Bella Villa sharing some of the same officers! Another small town with controversy.

*Note to all viewing, I do not believe all police are like this, nor do I think that most are. However I do believe that the few corrupt police and corrupt departments need to be exposed!

the cop was right -
the kid was a smart mouth little punk - with nothing to do at 2am - if by some strange chance this loser had a girlfriend - there would be no reason for his freaky weird ass to be outside looking to cause some type of trouble.

losers without girl friends always go out of their way to piss off the rest of the world because they have no clue how to be happy.

next time just shoot the punk in the face and call it a night..

Ber you are right the cop was out of line. However, he did answer Brett why he asked him for an ID. It was suspicious behavior. If you do not show ID then how is the cop going to know you are not a wanted criminal, or driving without a license, or someone who has been arrested before?
You say fire the cop? I say why don't we fire you for loosing your temper at work! Don't tell me you never lost your temper at work, everybody has. You want to fire a cop with 20yrs of service, lose his means for supporting his family -and probably his pension- because of a punk that pushed his buttons and had it out for cops? How about you ask first for the cops record! If this is the cops only time he got caught loosing his temper in 20yrs, while arresting several criminals, drunk drivers, and possibly saving a life in the process, then how about just suspend him for a month without pay. Does that sound reasonable to you Ber and Brett? and all of you that want to flush a mans life down the toilet for a punk?

No Stan I'm not saying that the cop was right. He was out of line and acted unprofessionally. What I'm saying to all those people that want him fired is to take a look at his record first before they scream for him to get fired. Personally, if his record shows he has been a good officer for the past 20yrs with legit arrest records and this is his only complaint then I don't think he should get fired because of a little punk, suspended without pay for a while yes. No one knows what happened to him earlier in the day or in his life.

Mike says:

You're right Stan, officers should be held accountable to higher standards. Just because he threatened with charges doesn't mean he was going to do it. In the end he let the punk go. Cops are humans also. They have feeling and temper just like the rest of us. How would you like to work in a job where no one appreciates you... until you die, people are shooting at you, you are in high speed chases, you walk into a scene where a kid is dead or raped, or get attitude because you simply asked a question? Why they do it? for the times they do arrest a child molester or a murderer, or a drunk driver that would have killed a family (only to see them walk the next day, month, year because their "rights" were violated. I think we should be more concerned about all the criminals that walk our streets and have more rights and benefits than the people that have never been arrested!

Helen Lawson says:

Mike all those things you posted about being the drawbacks of being a cop are true. But you know this going into it and if you don't like it quit. Because you have a stressful job doesn't allow you to throw the constitution out of the window and threatedn to ruing someone's life like that.

It would sort of be like a sugeon shrieking out of the operating room yelling "no one told me there was going to be blood!!!!!!!!!"

Mike, I take into full consideration that officers are people too. However, you and I have bad days at work and at times may feel under appreciated. The difference is we don't have the power to affect a persons life in such drastic ways. You make the point that he didn't arrest Brett and just let him go. How are we to know that he would have let him go if Brett didn't point out that there was a camera filming all of it. As far as I am concerned, the officer did lie when he said he pulled him over for no turn signals when in fact (if you rewatch the video) Brett did use his signal. You may not like the kid but I don't think he did anything wrong. Even if he was baiting the officer I sure don't think he was giving him any attitude.

One more point for Mike, I can deal with a cop being unprofessional cause he had a bad day. The reason the cop needs to be fired is that he threatened a citizen with fabricated charges.

I would also agree with Helen above.

I agree with Mike that this kid Brett was out baiting the cop. He had the camera switched on and rolling well before the encounter like he was anticipating a confrontation was going to happen. Also, if you do a google on Brett Darrow, you can see videos of other confrontations he's had with cops.

The cop was definitely out of line for losing his cool but he was definitely baited.

King of the USA says:

NO!!! Cops are not humans, they are objects of the law. If a police officer wants to search another officer's house, it is perfectly legal. They have to sign a pledge before becoming an officer which states "I the undersigned shall forfeit all of my rights if I want to be a police officer". If an officer does anything wrong, he shall be guillotined. They shall be monitored all of the time while on duty or off. Police Officers shall have cameras in their own home too, and shall never be allowed to have intercourse with their wives.

LOL the cop was in the wrong. Everyone that thinks we should look at his arrest record to prove he is a good cop, doesn't prove a thing. Especially when he makes stuff up to arrest people. If anything, the Police should have to review every one of his arrests to ensure the same thing didn't happen others.... making up stuff.

This incident establishes why these so-called public servants should be required to wear body cameras while on duty, a trend becoming popular in the UK. A Chicago shrink (Dr X) evaluated this sitation and posted his opinion at this blog.
Google >. Is it any wonder polls reveal LESS THAN 60 percent of citizens categorize members of law enforcement as HIGH or VERY HIGH in the categories of honesty and integrity. There are far too many rogue cops out there who regularly abuse their authority, and the BLUE CODE OF SILENCE insures they will not be eradicated from the ranks of the dishonorable profession of law enforcement. How is this code of silence any different than the manner gang members or members of organized crime operate??? It didn't come as any surprise the head of that department had a tainted history involving inappropriate conduct with a young femal motorist. How did someone with that type of blemish rise to the rank of Chief !!!! Is it any wonder the squad car dash cam of this incident mysteriously disappeared with someone like that at the helm. Last information I heard the Chief swine is also gone now.
